Got this for my 10yo, so she could access Spotify without being connected to a device. It works pretty well for both of us -- I don't have to worry about giving her a screen, she doesn't need access to my phone for it, she can keep it in her room, and she can choose the songs she wants (with my help creating/syncing the playlists). The only down side is that I was under the impression that it would work with Spotify Kids -- so that I could connect it with her app on my phone and we could sync it to that. Instead, it connects to *my* Spotify premium, so I have to add or create the kid-friendly playlists myself and then choose those as the ones to sync. It's not a big deal, just different from what I expected based on the advertising. We use it connected to a radio/CD player as the speakers, works great. Only other downside is that the battery seems to drain pretty quickly. There have been days where she was listening a lot and had to charge it more than once. You can't listen and charge at the same time, either, since both use the same jack port. It takes about an hour to charge each time.
Works a treat as an alternative offering to ‘screen time’ for parents concerned about excessive use of iPads. We paired it with some kid safe headphones for Christmas and he is now exploring this new world asking us to put more songs on his mighty everyday. Good for car trips too. Would be good if software also had a limited sound volume option on it so all headphones could be used or we could further limit the volume as 85 db is still quite loud in quiet environments. iPod nano used to have this feature and would be easy to incorporate in a software upgrade.
bought this for my 7 year old and he absolutely loves it so far. simple to use and provides enough independence. i can upload the playlists to his Mighty after he has created them on my Spotify account.
