FAQ – Mighty



What is the "disconnected movement?"

We love streaming music but hate lugging around our bulky smartphone during runs, workouts, commutes, and adventures. We’re sick of paying data overages and draining our battery life just to stream music. We want to disconnect from digital distraction and be one with our music.

What's your relationship with Spotify?

Mighty Audio is an official Spotify partner. We have been working directly with Spotify to create an awesome experience.

Connecting Mighty to the Mobile App

Does Mighty work with other apps or just Spotify?

Mighty currently only integrates with Spotify and requires a Premium account. That being said, we have all of the infrastructure in place to sync with a variety of services. We are currently exploring integrations with other music streaming services and other audio content services, like audiobooks and podcasts.

Does Mighty work with non-paying Spotify accounts?

Mighty only works with Spotify Premium accounts. You can upgrade and get the first month free.

What version of iOS and Android does Mighty work with?

Mighty is fully compatible with iOS 9.3.5 and above (iPhone 5 and newer) and Android Lollipop, Marshmallow, and Nougat. Mighty may not be compatible with iOS devices other than iPhones. Mighty may not be compatible with Android-based tablets.

Can Mighty sync with a laptop/computer? Is there a Mighty desktop app?

No, Mighty can currently only be synced using an iOS (iPhone/iPad) or Android device. We want to make is as easy as possible to sync your playlists, so we’ve completely done away with cords and computer. All you need is the Mighty mobile app installed on a smartphone and you’re good to go.

Why do you need WiFi to sync music?

WiFi is used to sync your music to your Mighty device as quickly as possible. Mighty cannot sync over cellular connection at this time.

Can I log out of my Mighty account and have all of my information stored when I log back in?

Logging out of your Mighty account will delete all music and user information stored on your Mighty (including all saved information such as Wifi networks, activity, etc.).

Can you rename your Mighty?

Yes, you can rename your Mighty. Once you have connected your Mighty to the mobile app, go to the Connections tab (left tab on the bottom) and then click on the Bluetooth icon at the top right. Once you are on the Bluetooth tab, click on the current name of the Mighty and it will allow you to rename your Mighty. Rename your Mighty and click SAVE. Please note, for changes to take place, you must turn off your Mighty, turn it back on and then re-connect it to your mobile app.

How do I disconnect from a WiFi network?

To disconnect your Mighty from a WiFi network, go to the Connections tab (left tab on the bottom). Then click on the WiFi icon at the top center. Once you are on the WiFi tab, swipe left the current WiFi you are connected to. Click on the trash icon which appears to disconnect from the WiFi network.

How do I disconnect my Mighty from the mobile app?

To disconnect your Mighty from the mobile app, go to the Connections tab (left tab on the bottom). Then click on the Bluetooth icon at the top right. Once you are on the Bluetooth tab, swipe left the line which states your current Mighty. Click on the trash icon which appears to disconnect your Mighty from the mobile app.

Using the Mobile App

How long does it take to sync music to Mighty?

Exact sync speed depends on your WiFi connection. On average, it takes five minutes to download 100 songs at normal quality. This is about 20% slower than downloading Spotify songs to your phone.

Do I need to download a playlist to my phone before I can sync it to Mighty?

No, you do not have to download a playlist to your phone in order to sync it to Mighty. Any playlist saved to your Spotify library can be synced to Mighty. There's no interaction between the playlists that are downloaded to your phone and those that are synced to Mighty.

Are the playlists I download on my phone the same as the playlists on my Mighty?

No, the playlists that you download on your phone are separate from the playlists you sync to Mighty. They can be the same playlists or completely different.

Can Mighty play albums and songs or just playlists?

Currently, Mighty only works with playlists. We decided to stick with playlists so that Mighty is super easy to use with physical buttons. Each time you press the playlist selector button, Mighty will scroll through your synced playlists and will speak the name of the selected playlist to you.

If you want to sync an album or a collection of songs, just group them into a playlist and give it an intuitive name.

Can you tether from your phone to sync music to Mighty?

No, Mighty cannot sync music over a cellular connection at this time.

Can I sync my playlists while listening to my music?

No, you cannot sync playlists while listening to music. You must pause your music to use the mobile app, they cannot be used in conjunction.

Can I connect Mighty to the mobile app while I'm listening to music?

No, you must pause your music to use the mobile app. They cannot be used in conjunction.

Why are my playlists not on my Mighty?

Logging out of your Spotify account in the mobile app will delete all songs stored on your Mighty while connected to mobile app. If you are not connected to mobile app, all songs stored on the Mighty will be deleted when you reconnects to the mobile app.

This is partially to meet a Spotify policy to prevent two different Spotify accounts to have music stored on one single device.

If I add a song to a Spotify playlist on my phone or computer, will it automatically be added to my Mighty?

Currently, any song you add to a Spotify playlist will not be automatically be added to Mighty. We plan to add this functionality later this year. To manually refresh the playlists that are synced to your Mighty, navigate to the Music tab and click on the Mighty icon at the top of the screen. Find the Stay Fresh! bar and click the icon next to that bar to initiate the refresh. This will automatically pull-in any changes that you’ve made to your synced playlists, including track additions/removals and changes to the order of tracks.

Changes that you make to your Spotify library using the Spotify app or desktop program will automatically be reflected in the Mighty app each time to you close and relaunch the Mighty app. If you want to refresh your Spotify library without closing the Mighty app, you can disconnect and reconnect your Spotify account via the Connections tab, then navigate back to the Your Music screen. See Section 1.6 for more information on connecting and disconnecting your Spotify account.

How does downloading quality affect bit rate and download speeds?

Choosing the download quality from your Mobile app will have an affect on your download speed when syncing. Lower quality means lower bit rates which will result in faster download speeds, while the higher quality means higher bit rates which will result in slower download speeds. Download speeds are also dependent on the strength of your wifi connection.

Does Mighty have EQ capabilities or sound quality settings?

Mighty does not have any EQ settings. There is the ability to choose audio quality for songs downloaded to Mighty. These options are the same as the Spotify mobile app: Normal, High, Extreme.

Listening to Your Music

Does Mighty work with headphone controls?

Each headphone has it’s own method for song navigation, so we can’t guarantee that all headphone controls will work.

Why did music from my Mighty stop playing?

Please check if your Mighty has enough battery life. First plug it into a charger, wait 30 minutes and try again.

Note: Mighty currently does not support auto-repeat and will not restart a playlist if you reach the end.

Can Mighty shuffle songs?

Mighty will not be able to shuffle songs when we first release. This is a limitation on Spotify's end, but we spoke to them and this is their top priority on the roadmap.

Does Mighty actually stream music?

While Mighty does have WiFi and the capability to stream music, the primary way to play music is offline. The pain point we’re solving is to provide an on-the-go streaming music experience without a bulky smartphone. With 8GB of memory, users will have more than enough songs (1,000+ songs).

Does Mighty count as one of my three devices for offline play?

Yes, Mighty counts as one of your three devices for offline play.

Are there any limitations to playing offline music on Mighty? Is it the same as offline play on my phone?

Yes, Mighty has the same Spotify offline limitations as your phone:

Spotify allows you to store up to 3,333 songs on each offline device. Mighty will sync as many songs as possible and will stop syncing once the 3,333 song limit is reached. However, you are unlikely to hit this limit when using Mighty.

Spotify allows you to play up to 8,000 songs in a single offline session. Mighty will provide a VoiceOver audio warning after 4,000 tracks played. Mighty will provide another VoiceOver notification after 8,000 songs played, then playback will be disabled. To re-enable playback, connect your Mighty to the mobile app, navigate to the Music tab, and click the Stay Fresh! button. This will start a new offline session.

Spotify allows you to play your songs for up to 30 days in a single offline session. Playback will be disabled after 30 days. To re-enable playback, connect your Mighty to the mobile app, navigate to the Music tab, and click the Stay Fresh! button. This will start a new offline session.

Connecting to Bluetooth Accessories

Does Mighty work with Bluetooth headphones and speakers?

Yes, Mighty is compatible with both Bluetooth (and wired) headphones and Bluetooth speakers.

Which Bluetooth accessories is Mighty compatible with?

Mighty supports most Bluetooth headsets, speakers, and car entertainment systems. The list below only shows accessories that have been tested and verified to work with Mighty, but we expect that 99% of accessories will work. You can contribute to the list of supported accessories by filling out this form.

How do I connect a Bluetooth accessory?

Use your mobile app to connect your Bluetooth headphones or speaker to Mighty. First, turn on your Bluetooth Accessory to pairing mode and toggle to the ‘Connections’ tab (left tab at the bottom of the mobile app). Ensure your Mighty is connected to the mobile app and there is no headphone jack plugged in. Pull the screen down scan for Bluetooth devices. Once your Bluetooth Accessory appears, select the ‘+’ button next to the accessory you want to pair. Mighty will give an audible chime in your Bluetooth Accessory to indicate successful pairing. Once you have completed pairing, your Mighty is connected to your Bluetooth Accessory and a blue checkmark will appear to the left of the accessory name.

Why can't my Mighty detect a Bluetooth accessory?

Please ensure that your Bluetooth accessory is enabled for pairing when trying to connect Mighty to a Bluetooth accessory. When the accessory is ready to pair, swipe down on the Bluetooth screen to look for your device.

Why won't my Mighty connect to my bluetooth headset or speaker?

You cannot connect to bluetooth accessories when something is plugged into the headphone jack.

How do I unpair a Bluetooth accessory?

To unpair your Bluetooth accessory, go to the Connections tab (left tab on the bottom). Then click on the Bluetooth icon at the top center. Once you are in the Bluetooth tab, swipe left on the accessory you want to unpair. Then click on the trash icon which appears to disconnect from the Bluetooth accessory.

Will my Mighty auto connect to my Bluetooth device and how would I know?

Yes, Mighty will auto connect to my Bluetooth device. Mighty will give an audible chime in your Bluetooth Accessory to indicate successful pairing.

Why can't I control the volume on my bluetooth speaker with my Mighty?

Not all Bluetooth accessories are created equal. Depending on the Bluetooth accessory you are paired to, Mighty may or may not work for volume control.

Can I use Mighty in my car?

Yes, Mighty works just like any other Bluetooth device and works with most car Bluetooth systems. 

Power Management

How do you charge Mighty?

Mighty comes with a cord that plugs into the headphone jack and gets power through a standard USB charger.

How long does it take Mighty to fully charge?

Mighty takes approximately 30 minutes to charge from 0% to 80% full and an additional 30 minutes to charge from 80% to 100% full.

Does the device turn on when charging?

Yes, when you plug your device into a charger, it will turn on. To turn off your device, simple press and hold the Play/Pause button for 4 seconds.

How do I know when the device needs to be charged?

You can connect your device to the Mighty mobile app and the Music tab will show the battery life percentage. Additionally, when your Mighty reaches only 10% battery life left, the device will blink orange and you will hear a beep in your headphones.

How do I know Mighty is charging?

If your device is on, the LED will be a flashing pink.

How do I know when the device is fully charged?

You can connect your device to the Mighty mobile app and the Music tab will show the battery life percentage. If your device is on and still plugged, the LED will be a steady pink.

Why did my device just shut itself off?

Your Mighty is in sleep mode. After 5 minutes of no activity, your Mighty will go to sleep to conserve battery.

Does Mighty have a sleep mode?

Yes, sleep mode is enabled after 5 mins of no activity and not connected to mobile app.

Does Mighty auto shut-down?

Yes, Mighty automatically shuts down after 45 minutes in sleep mode.

I was holding my play/pause button trying to turn on my Mighty but now it doesn't work. Why?

After you shut off the device (pressing the center button for 4 seconds), if you try to turn on the device within 20 seconds, the Mighty may still be powering down in the background and holding the center button will not turn on the device. If you hold down the the center button too long (more than 8 seconds), the device will reset. Reset does not erase anything - it only requires you to reconnect to mobile app before you can play music offline.

Something is wrong with my device. Is there a way to reset it?

Yes! Hold the Play/pause button for 8 seconds and your Mighty will reset.

Why does it say "USB Device Not Recognized" when I plug Mighty into a Windows computer?

You can ignore this message because Mighty is only using your Windows computer for charging and not for any other type of communication or data transfer.


How many songs can Mighty hold?

Mighty can hold about 1,000 songs at the highest Spotify audio quality, which is more than 48 hours of continuous music.

What's the battery life?

Mighty has up to 5 hours of continuous playback.

Is Mighty waterproof or water resistant?

Currently, Mighty is water resistant which means that Mighty won’t break if you get sweat on it or if it gets rained on for a few seconds. But it’s not fully waterproof, so you don’t want to take it into the pool with you.

We are currently in discussions with a company to make a waterproof version of Mighty. This was a top request among swimmers.

What codecs are supported for Bluetooth audio output?

We support the following A2DP compliant codecs:

Orders and Shipping

Do you guys collect customs duties/VAT for international shipments?

No, we do not collect customs duties/VAT. All international packages may be subject to duties/VAT. Please check with your local customs office and government for assessing the duties for your country.

What service are you using for shipping and what are the expected delivery times?

For domestic US, we are using USPS and the delivery times are estimated to be 2-3 days. For international orders, the average timing ranges from 1-4 weeks depending on the specific country, customers, and regional carrier.

What if I did not update my shipping address before my Mighty was shipped?

If you have not updated your shipping address as requested, we are not responsible for fulfilling your Mighty. Please check with your local mail provider to receive your shipment or update as necessary.

How much does it cost to ship to my country?

The shipping costs by region for one Mighty are as follows:

What is Mighty's Return/Exchange policy?

Incorrect Shipping Addresses

If you have not updated your shipping address as requested, we are not responsible for fulfilling your Mighty. Please check with your local mail provider to receive your shipment or update as necessary.

Shipping Damages - Upon Receipt

Please review your shipment and let us know of any shipping damages within 24 hours. We will gladly send you a replacement.  Please contact heyo@bemighty.com for return instructions.

Within 30 Days

If you are not satisfied with your purchase from bemighty.com, you may request a full refund for the purchased price of the product (not including shipping) within 30 days from the date of purchase. Please contact us at heyo@bemighty.com for return instructions and a return authorization number. You will be responsible for paying for shipping plus any additional VAT/customs fees to return your item, except where prohibited by law.  Mighty products purchased other than through bemighty.com must be returned in accordance with their respective refund and return policy.
To be eligible for a full refund, the product must be in the same condition as you received it and must be in its original packaging. Mighty will not provide refunds for any product which is damaged, missing parts, and/or not in its original packaging.  We may request a receipt or original proof of purchase prior to issuing a full refund.  Once your returned product is received and inspected by Mighty, we will notify you via email (1) that we received your product; and (2) whether your request for a refund has been approved or rejected.  If your request for refund is rejected, we will give our reasoning and, if possible, provide ways to remedy the rejected request for a refund.  If approved, your refund will be processed through the original method of payment within 15 business days.
This policy applies to orders purchased on the Mighty website only. Kickstarter/Indiegogo pledges do not apply.
Exchanges of Mighty products only apply if the product is found defective per our Limited Warranty.

After 30 Days

After 30 days, we may replace your product in accordance with our Limited Warranty policy only. We cannot accept returned products damaged through normal wear and tear. 

What is Mighty's Warranty policy?

What is Mighty's 9-Month Limited Warranty?

Mighty Audio, Inc. (“Mighty”) warrants that the Mighty device (‘the “Product”) shall be free from material defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of nine (9) months from the date of original purchase. 

What does this warranty cover?

This Limited Warranty covers any material defects in the materials and workmanship of the Product. This Limited Warranty applies to the original purchaser and are limited to the terms found in this document. This Limited Warranty is only valid in territories and jurisdictions where the Product is sold by Mighty itself or authorized agents/resellers, and is valid to the extent permitted by law.

How long is the period of coverage?

The Limited Warranty is valid for a period of nine (9) months from the date of purchase (“Warranty Period”).
Any replacement product will be warranted to the remainder of the original warranty period or thirty (30) days from receiving the replacement product, whichever is longer.

What will we do to correct problems?

If a defect arises within the Warranty Period, Mighty will, at its option:
  • Repair the Product at no charge
  • Replace the Product with a new or refurbished Product
Shipping and handling charges may apply except where prohibited by law. It is likely that any data stored in the Product will be lost or reformatted during repair of the product, and Mighty will not be responsible for any such damage or loss. Please ensure to sync your Product with our Mobile App to avoid any interruption or loss of data.

How do you get service?

To obtain service, you must receive authorization from our customer service team. Please contact the customer service team at heyo@bemighty.com to request a warranty return authorization. You must deliver the Product, in its original packaging or packaging providing equal protection to the address provided by the customer service team. We may require a receipt or original proof of purchase.

What does this warranty not cover?

This Limited Warranty applies only to the Product manufactured by or for Mighty which can be identified with the “Mighty” trademark or logo.  This Limited Warranty does not apply to the following:
  • Products and services other than the Product
  • Mighty merchandise including but not limited to shirts, and other apparel
  • Non-Mighty hardware products
  • Consumables (such as batteries)
  • Software embedded in the Product and related services provided by Mighty
Additionally, this warranty does not apply to the following situations:
  • Damages caused by normal wear and tear, and aging such as discoloration
  • Damages caused by use with non-Mighty products
  • Damages caused by abuse, accident, flood, fire, earthquake, misuse, or other external causes
  • Damages caused by using the Product outside of its intended use
  • Damages caused by improper voltage or power supply
  • Damages caused by services performed by anyone who is not an approved agent of Mighty

What will we not do?

Mighty will not recover or reinstall software programs and user data.

What must you do to keep the warranty in effect?

This Limited Warranty does not apply to a Product or part of the Product that has been modified or altered by anyone who is not an approved agent of Mighty.

How does state law relate to this warranty?

This Limited Warranty shall be governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without giving effect to any conflict of laws principles that may provide the application of the law of another jurisdiction.

Other Info

Mighty does not warrant that the operation of the Product will be uninterrupted or error-free.
No Mighty representative, seller, agent, or employee is authorized to make any modification, extension, or addition to this Limited Warranty. If any term is held to be illegal or unenforceable, the legality or enforceability of the remaining terms shall not be affected or impaired.

Consumers in some jurisdictions may have legal rights under applicable national legislation governing the sale of consumer goods, including, without limitation, national laws implementing EC Directive 99/44. These rights are not affected by the warranties in this Limited Warranty.
